Assurance of Salvation

1. Assurance Is God’s Loving Purpose For Us

Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling... according to His Own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began.
2 Timothy 1:9-10

The God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ... hath chosen us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him.
Ephesians 1:3-5

We know that all... who are the called according to His purpose... whom He did foreknow, He also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of His Son.
Romans 8:28-29

Whom He did predestinate, them He also called... He also justified... If God be for us, who can be against us?
Romans 8:30-31

The righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all... that believe... Being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus.
Romans 3:22-26

Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us... that being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs... of eternal life.
Titus 3:5-8 (Galatians 4:7)

In Whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of Him Who worketh all things after the counsel of His Own will.

2. Assurance Comes By Believing God’s Promises For Believers

By Trusting Absolutely In God’s Faithfulness And His Promises

Know therefore that the Lord thy God, He is God, the Faithful God.
Deuteronomy 7:9 (Exodus 34:6; 1 Corinthians 1:9)

He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith... fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform.
Romans 4:20-25 (Romans 1:16-17; Genesis 15:6; Hebrews 6:11-18)

God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He that hath the Son hath life.
1 John 5:11-12

Faithful is He that calleth you, Who also will do it.
1 Thessalonians 5:24

All the promises of God in Him are yea, and in Him Amen, unto the glory of God.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (John 20:31)

Some Of God’s Many Promises For Believers

All that the Father giveth Me shall come to Me; and him that cometh to Me I will in no wise cast out.
John 6:37-38

I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of My hand.

I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for Mine Own sake, and will not remember thy sins.

If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

3. What God’s Word Says He Has Done For Us, Who Have Believed In Jesus Christ

You, that were... alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath He reconciled.
Colossians 1:21 (2 Corinthians 5:18)

And you, being dead in your sins... hath He quickened together with Him, having forgiven you all trespasses.
Colossians 2:12-13

The wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Romans 6:23 (Romans 3:23-25)

God, Who hath also given unto us His Holy Spirit.
1 Thessalonians 4:8

Who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings... in Christ.

4. What We May Know And Be Sure Of Through Faith In Jesus Christ

We know that we have passed from death unto life.
1 John 3:14

Ye may know that ye have eternal life, and... may believe on the... Son of God.
1 John 5:13

We know that we are of God.
1 John 5:19

I am not ashamed: for I know Whom I have believed, and am persuaded that He is able to keep.
2 Timothy 1:12 (2 Timothy 2:13; John 10:29-30)

We know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know Him that is True, and we are in Him that is True, even in His Son Jesus Christ. This is the True God, and eternal life.
1 John 5:20 (John 17:3)

We know that He abideth in us, by the Spirit Whom He hath given us.
1 John 3:24 (1 John 4:13; John 14:26; John 15:26)

5. Assurance Is Strengthened By God’s Word, Prayer And By Witness To Jesus Christ

The Spirit... beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God.
Romans 8:14-16 (1 Corinthians 2:9-10)

We through... the Scriptures...have hope... The God of Hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing... through the power of the Holy Ghost.
Romans 15:4,13

Continue thou in the things which thou hast learned... the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
2 Timothy 3:14-15

We ought to obey God rather than men… And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, Whom God hath given to them that obey Him.

We cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard.

6. Assurance Is Strengthened By Experiencing God’s Faithfulness In Our Lives.

It is God Who worketh in you both to will and to do of His good pleasure... That ye may be blameless... the sons of God... Holding forth the Word of Life.
Philippians 2:13-16

The Lord stood with me, and strengthened me; that by me the preaching might be fully known, and that all the Gentiles might hear.
2 Timothy 4:17-18 (Acts 23:11; 27:23-25)

I sought the LORD,… He heard me, and delivered me from all my fears... Taste and see…the Lord is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in Him.
Psalms 34:4,8-9 (Psalm 63:3-8; Psalm 116:1-2)

God is faithful, by Whom ye were called unto the fellowship of His Son Jesus Christ our Lord. Now I beseech you, brethren… that ye be perfectly joined together.
1 Corinthians 1:9-10 (1 Corinthians 12:12-25)

I thank my God upon every remembrance of you... for your fellowship in the gospel from the first day until now.

That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us... our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ.
