Introducing the author

Leonard E. S. Sharp, MB BCh (Cantab) MBE, Pioneer and Missionary

Len Sharp dedicated his life to the service of God while an undergraduate at Cambridge University. After serving as a missionary doctor and as a military medical officer in Uganda  and Tanganyika, 1914-1918, he devoted his life to the spread of the Gospel in Uganda, Rwanda and Burundi, and was co-founder of the Rwanda Mission (CMS) now Mid-Africa Region of (CMS).

His steadfast faith, God-given gifts of leadership, foresight, courage and humour, his skill as a surgeon, compassion for the sick and leprosy sufferers, combined with his practical abilities in building, engineering and craftsmanship, equipped Len Sharp well for the hardships, challenges and successes of pioneer missionary life. Above all, his commitment was to preaching and teaching the Gospel, and to building up believers in faith and Christian living. It was for that purpose that he published ‘Great Truths from God's Word’ and was engaged in its expansion in his final years.

‘Len’s life was devoted to spreading God’s Kingdom, and it is only those associated with him who realise to the full all that he has done in Ruanda, but all of us in East Africa thank God for the life and ministry of a true man of God.'
Bishop F. Kivengere
